Say goodbye to the Glaciers
Glaciers of the world have been receding quite rapidly over the past 50 years. I found an interesting article on SummitPost.org about what has been happening.
Makes me wonder how much longer I'll be able to hang onto my pickets and other glacier travel gear.

Mary and Daisy head for the summit
Mammut has teamed up with Mary Woodbridge of England, a spry 85 year old, who will soon be going for the summit of Everest (along with her dog Daisy). Watch below as she explains her reasons and shows some of her training techniques.

Check out more of Mary's videos (I'm quite fond of her supporters video) and find out more about her deal with Mammut.

BackcountryBlog.com
BackcountryBlog.com This is a blog I also post on regarding outdoor industry news and stuff. There are a few other contributors to this blog but I seem to be the "voice" over there. Check it out from time to time.
Building a house? Will review building tools!
I'm building a house with the help of my dad and thus I've had more chance to test out things like nail guns, hammers, tool bags and safety goggles more than I have outdoor gear. I did manage to work in a few backcountry skiing days early on in the month that were downright sweet! One item that I've been using this year and that I will soon be writing a review about to be posted on FeedtheHabit.com is the Indigo Elvn pronounced: eleven.
This newly redesigned pack (the first version absolutely stank) has been a great ski touring pack. I dig it's narrow fit with a great shovel blade pocket that has the shovel blade upside down and fit in a "clam shell" design pocket. The unique ski carry system is quick and easy to use, but doesn't snug the skis down like other packs I've used. But since I skin more than I bootback, it has held up and been the pack of choice for my short trip tours this year.
Now if I can get my hands on the Reve pack I'll be stoked.

Wanna kick some cornice?
Whenever you're out in the backcountry looking for that perfect slope to flog your gear on, be sure you're one step ahead of things by bringing a 50' piece of 8mm rope along to kick some cornices before you jump onto a slope. Better the cornice get caught in a slide than you. A little lesson for ya - Kicking Cornices 101 by Bruce Tremper

Welcome to the Gear Flog
The gear flog is soon to be the proving grounds, the place for you to see all sorts of outdoor gear that will be tested, beat up, hammered...basically, flogged.
I look forward to posting the carnage and having you chime in to see what I'm beating up these days.
